American artist Natasha Wheat walks us through her day before 10am.

IN BED

What do you wear to bed?

Nothing.

How do you dress your bed?

A Coyuchi white Sateen fitted sheet and pillowcases, and a white linen duvet cover. I designed our bed out of solid walnut and it appears to float, so I like it to be dressed minimally. Our baby is snuggled in Coyuchi baby blankets, they are organic and remind me of my favourite aspects of living in Northern California.

What is on your nightstand?

I don’t have a nightstand, it just seems like a place to accumulate things. I drink a glass of water before bed and count on my baby to wake me up.

Who do you sleep with?

My husband Kirby James, and our baby Dylan Azul. My dog soul mate Hilda the Shiba Inu is on a sheepskin near our bed.

How many hours do you sleep?

Before baby: 8 all at once. Now with a new-born, I can sleep for 5 hours straight then feed him, then sleep for another two hours. I squeeze in another hour or two with him on my chest in the morning if he isn't too memorized by the world when he opens his eyes. I will choose sleep over socializing 11 times out of 10.

What time do you wake up?

I get up at 4am these days, and out of bed around 6am when I finally give up on trying to compete with the dawn

BODY

How do you work out?

I do yoga and hike and carry Azulito.

What is your first drink of the day and why?

My husband brings me herbal tea first thing in in bed (I am naturally caffeinated).

What is for breakfast?

Silence, preferably. I make cashew milk for the week and blend it with different things depending on the season. I add bone collagen, chlorella, and orange juice for an Orange Julius vibe.

Sometimes I heat it up and mix it with warming spices like cardamom and cinnamon.

Other days I make an iron rich granola with sunflower seeds, chia, oats, molasses, coconut oil and flax and then pour it over the top.

I don’t eat dairy or gluten, and try not to eat cold things.

What is your morning beauty routine?

Luzern aloe based gel cleanser and Josh Rosebrook zinc based SPF.

What are your go-to beauty products?

Brushing my hair with a Mason Pearson every night and putting it into a long braid is my ritual. It reminds me of my beautiful Panamanian Grandmother Ester who wore hers down to her waist until she passed away in her 90s.

I love Captain Blankenship Sunshine Cream, Captain Blankenship Anchor Balm, and True Botanicals Eye Serum.

At night, I soak in a tub with Hinoki wood satchels and Erbaviva just sent me some beautiful essential oils.

What are your go-to makeup products?

RMS Buruti Bronzer and Lily Lolo mascara are pretty much all I wear. I kiss my baby all day so I don’t want color on my lips and I use RMS Cocoa lip balm.

What is your emergency go-to for a tired face?

Lip balm and a little RMS bronzer, because there is nothing worse than make up on a tired face.

AT DESK

What is the first thing you do?

I have never had a desk! I'm an artist. I would probably carve my name into it.

What is the first thing you read?

Local news and human interest stories. I save depressing political news for later in the morning. I walk my dog in the morning first thing so I talk with people in the neighbourhood. That’s my news.

What is top of your to-do list?

I am into visual organization, so probably making sense of the environment in my studio.

What is your 10am pick-me-up for energy?

A walk, or remembering to be present. I get tired if I'm thinking about the future, it is vast and exhausting.
